Rockland County is situated on the western side of the Hudson River and is considered a portion of the New York metropolitan area, being just about six miles away from the Bronx. The Tappan Zee River is its border on the east side.

Rockland is rated in the top 31 of counties with the highest median income, and is home to the towns of Clarkstown, Haverstraw, Orangetown, Ramapo, and Stony Point. It also has a number of villages, including Chestnut Ridge, Haverstraw, Montebello, Nyack, and Upper Nyack. Hamlets include Rockland Lake, Jones Point, and Central Nyack.

Residents are within close proximity to to John F. Kennedy International Aiport, LaGuardia Airport as well as ferries and bus systems. They can also travel via the NJ Transit/Metro-North Railroad, and also have direct access to several major highways, including  I-87 and I-287.

Real Estate

The median listing price for a house in Rockland County is $599,000, or $305 per square foot, and this figure is down 2.6% from last year. The median number of days spent on the market before selling is just 30, and 248 homes sold last year, down 21.5% over last year.

There are currently 475 properties available for purchase, and the median rent in the area is $3.5K per month.

Parents have access to some of the best schools, and for little children, this includes Lincoln Avenue School, Strawtown Elementary School, and Laurel Plains Elementary School, all of which received between 8 and 10 out of 10 possible points on the Great Schools rubric.

Older students can go to Clarkstown South Senior High School or Suffern Senior High School with its rating of an 8. There are private schools as well, such as Bnos isroel Girls’ School and Yeshiva of Spring Valley. Graduates can attend Nyack college, Dominican College, Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
