Harrison, New York is a town and a village that is located in Westchester County, and it is situated approximately 22 miles to the northeast of Manhattan. Its rich history begins in 1696 when it was an English settlement, and the area’s first permanent occupants were Quakers. It was the site of a Revolutionary War battle, and many homes, particularly near the downtown business district, were constructed in the 1830s. Reid Castle, built in 1867, is incorporated into the campus of Manhattanville’s college campus and once hosted the King and Queen of Siam.

Families can visit the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens, containing 45 outdoor sculptures from master artists, such as Auguste Rodin and Alberto Giacometti. Outdoor enthusiasts can spend time at the Cranberry Lake Preserve, and the Performing Arts Center features a variety of entertainment.

A number of motion pictures and television shows have been filmed there, including Riding in Cars with Boys, The English Teacher, and Girls.

The median house listing is $1.7 million, or $439 per square foot, and there are currently 78 properties available for purchase. 10 homes sold last month, a decline of 44% since this time last year, and the average listing will spend just 38 days on the market before selling. 13% of properties sold for less than their asking price, and 40% sold for more than was asked for.

Elementary school students have access to Harrison Avenue Elementary School and Purchase School which both enjoy a rating of 8 out of 10 according to Great Schools. Harrison High School boasts a score of 8 points out of 10, and parents can also choose private institutions, such as Keio Academy of New York. Graduates can pursue higher education at Manhattanville College or State University of New York Purchase College. 91% of residents earn their high school diploma or equivalent, and 50% have earned a college degree.
